SAT Mathematics
Syllabus
The SAT math syllabus is divided into four main subtopics, each of which contains several subtopics that test specific areas of math. These subtopics include:
Heart of Algebra - This subtopic is focused on fundamental algebraic concepts and skills, such as solving linear equations and inequalities, working with systems of linear equations, and understanding the relationship between equations and their graphs.
Problem-Solving and Data Analysis - This subtopic tests students' ability to analyze and interpret data, including graphical and numerical representations of data, measures of central tendency and variability, and basic statistical concepts such as probability.
Passport to Advanced Math - This subtopic covers more advanced algebraic and geometric concepts, including quadratic and higher-order equations and inequalities, functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and trigonometry.
Additional Topics - This subtopic covers a range of miscellaneous topics, including geometry, coordinate geometry, and complex numbers.
Within each of these subtopics are several subtopics that test specific areas of math. For example, within the Heart of Algebra subtopic, you are tested on linear equations, systems of linear equations, linear inequalities, and functions. Similarly, within the Problem-Solving and Data Analysis subtopic, you are tested on graphical and numerical representations of data, measures of central tendency and variability, probability, and statistical concepts such as scatter-plots and correlation.
It is important for students to thoroughly review each subtopic and practice applying these concepts to a variety of problems to prepare for the exam. By understanding the topics covered in the syllabus and practicing consistently, you can approach the math section of the SAT with confidence and improve their chances of earning a high score.
